Walter George Lang passed away on March 19, 2024, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, from a heart attack. He was 83 years old. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28th at First Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Salado, located at 12395 FM Road 2843. Visitation at the church will be from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by a service from noon to 1 p.m., and then a meal provided after.
Burial will be at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery on April 2nd at 2 p.m.
Walter, also called George by many who knew him, was born in Jarrell on May 22, 1940, to Walter H. Langnegger & Jewel Elizabeth (Jackson) Langnegger. He attended school in Salado. After completing the ninth grade, he entered the Air Force and was stationed for five years at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, where he earned his high school GED and trained as a plumber. After leaving military service, he continued working with the Civil Service at the base until 1981, when he moved back to the Belton/Salado area to work at Ft. Hood, eventually becoming supervisor over outdoor plumbing, natural gas systems, and liquid fuels. From 1993 until his retirement in February, 1998, he worked in the Department of Public Works at Ft. Hood as a job estimator.
On February 14, 1993, he married Carolyn Broadaway, née Carolyn Berry.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Alice Barnes and Marie Fritz; and a half-brother, Charlie Joe Yarbrough. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of Harker Heights; two stepsons, Rick Broadaway (wife, Tomoko) of Kanazawa, Japan and Mark Broadaway of Harker Heights; two step-granddaughters; three sons, Walter Glenn Lang, Gaylon Lang, and Melton Lang; and one daughter, Sonna Connell. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Hawthorne, Betty Shook, and Ima McCoy; a sister-in-law, Maxine Yarbrough; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a faithful member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Harker Heights for 31 years, having found the Lord when he was 12 years old.
